BARRY SPOKES
Barry runs all aspects of the tax side of the firm. He has specialised in tax work for individuals and small businesses for over 25 years. Having trained with the Inland Revenue he moved on to this side of the fence in 1981 and spent many years as Tax Manager with Spain Brothers & Co in Maidstone. In addition to his tax work with James Magee, Barry has acted as Financial Controller of a local haulage firm for some years so his understanding of his role extends well beyond that of the traditional tax accountant. June is in charge of all our accounts preparation work. She too has specialised in this type of work for over 25 years, training and managing departments of several staff in accountancy firms in Wales and Kent. In addition to her work with us June acts as part-time Financial Controller for other companies and professional firms. She loves the variety which this work gives and it helps to provide some true commercial perspective which brings great benefit to the projects she undertakes for us. Val runs our payroll bureau. She left accountancy practice 12 years ago and since "going solo" has built a very successful independent business of her own. In addition to working for us she acts as Finance Director for a major construction firm and deals with all the payroll and accountancy requirements of several independent small businesses. Mike is our business computing specialist. He ran his own small business in high-tech electronics for 15 years and, as a highly qualified specialist in computer technology, is particularly aware of the problems facing small businesses. He has an extensive knowledge of office software suites, networking and internet issues and is a proficient computer programmer and website designer.
